Talladega Nights is my new chocolate milk.

If Will Ferrell and I got married, I would ask him to spend at least 45% of our time together as Ricky Bobby. I love this movie because so much of it is real. I'm not as Southern as I could be, but you can bet I went to high school with that man.

A month or so ago I caught a clip of the prayer scene and realized that I literally start real prayers based on a Will Ferrell movie. "Dear sweet baby Jesus, ..." I was wondering where it had come from, and I can't say I mind the original source. "I like to think of Jesus wearing a tuxedo t-shirt because he's formal, but he came to party. And I like to party too!"

Writer's Block: Twilight becomes you

Nov. 22nd, 2009 | 12:31 pm

Have you seen New Moon? If so, how do you think it compared to the book? Was it better or worse than Twilight? Please, no spoilers!

By now y'all know I'm a total loser and that I LOVE the Twilight books. The first movie was awful, but I really had high hopes for New Moon. Happily, I wasn't disappointed! It was amazing!

Twilight (the movie) was weirdly thematically dark, badly edited, kind of boring, and badly costumes. New Moon was so much lighter and suprisingly FUNNY! The movie was long, but it was basically a greatest hits of the book: all the sceens you want with less filler (i.e.: Edward and Bella staring at each other like zombies for hours at a time)

I actually think in some ways the movie was superior to the book because it was so heavily edited. Stephenie Meyers herself has admitted that she isn't so hot at cutting down her books, and sometimes I think parts of the story, esp. conflicts between Edward and Bella, drag because she loves the work too much to cut it. Whoever wrote the screenplay for this movie did a great job of exploring the central conflicts and then moving on instead of wallowing for 40 pages.

In summary, I loved it and can't wait to see it at least one more time in the theaters before I wear out a DVD copy.

Me encanta

Nov. 17th, 2009 | 10:40 am

I recently remembered how freaking much I love luchadores, Mexican wrestlers who often live their entire lives masked to keep their identity a secret. These guys are awesome.

OPEN QUESTION: If you were a luchador, what would your name be? Your mask?

I would be called La Fuego (The Fire!) and would have a red and gold mask. I would probably need a cape as well and red lace-up boots with gold flames burning up the legs. I'd obviously have a cape to wear as I entered the ring.

E tu luchas?

Age old questions

Nov. 8th, 2009 | 11:39 am

I'm trying to decide if I should have fat-free yougurt or pie for breakfast this morning.

On one hand, I like yogurt, and I like starting the day out with something light and healthy. Calcium is good for your bones, muscles, and eyes, and I'm pretty commited to getting at least one serving of dairy a day.

Oh the other hand, sitting in my kitchen is my annual once a year apple pie. The crust and filling are (obviously) from scratch. It is delicious. It has so  many apples and so little sugar it could parade around like a legitimate breakfast food if it wasn't for the tasty, tasty crust.

-My parents fight all the time and it is exhausting.

-My dad retired yesterday. So far, so good. I'm going to worry about these things when I need to, and not any earlier.

-School is going pretty well. The last few weeks were really intense, but it's going to soften up a little now.

-It is SO wierd having everyone home in the middle of the day. SO WIERD.

-I bombed a A&P quiz yesterday, but I've been aceing everything else.

-I'm doing Weight Watchers again and I've lost 13 lbs. It's kind of a secret because I don't always like talking about it (and I HATE having people watch what I eat), but I'm really plesed with the steps that I've taken. My goal right now is to loose another 7 lbs and get down to what I weighed when I graduated from college.

-My 25th b-day is next Thursday. My friend Amy and I are gonna go to fancy dinner!

-Hooray for Irene being back in the country!

-Hooray for Melody and Jame's wedding this weekend! Mazeltov!

-Hooray for Seaves and Mr. Brosco's new baby! Yaaay!

-I have a sweet new Hello Kitty hoodie. It's nice to buy clothes that I like again instead of saying 'good enough'.

-Some of the girls on the WW message boards are MEAN to other people! It's ridiculous! Why would you be cruel to others in a place made for mutual support! So stupid!

-I love that justanothermusician is trying to quit smoking again. Quitting is crazy hard, and I'm very proud of him.

-I cannot wait for New Moon.

-Today is my last class of Ethics- I have another paper and quiz due later this week for him. I'll miss my classmates, but I wouln't miss that travesty of a class and teaching myself all the information.

That's about it for now. Things are rough here, but I'm living through it. I think my goal right now is to shake the inertia I've had lately and to really focus on living my life fully instad of floating through it the way I have the last month or so. Pray for me.

Good Stuff, Fancy Lady.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
~Eleanor Roosevelt

Heyo!

Sep. 30th, 2009 | 06:16 pm

Hi guys! I just wanted to post and say hi and let you know that I am indeed alive. The last month or so was pretty dark, but I'm happy to say that things are getting better. School is literally trying to kill me, but the home stuff is settling down/ I'm learning how to work within the new parameters. This is my unofficial midterm week so I can't stay too long, but I'd like to post a shot list of things currently in my life that make me happy:

-Irene Hotpants Franko finished her thesis. CONGRATULATIONS Booboo!!
-The Vampire Diaries. God bless teen girl television.
-Mr. Jesus. Always fly.
-My cat.
-Diet Orange Soda. Thank you baby Jesus.
-My Developmental Psych class. I wish I could just live in there. It's so nice to have something I'm good at to do twice a week. Bio is sucking my soul out.
-Halloween decorations.
-Scott and Alison's wedding this weekend to look forward to.

Also, thank you very much for all of the kind support. I appreciate the advice, love, prayers, and vibes very much. Thank you.
